BELIEVER’S KIT: #1- PRAYER
The Christian life is a life lived daily. It is a beautiful life and very unique, but it is also a life of battle. This battle is fought everyday we live. The world in which we are fighting this battle is in total chaos, and it is the world against the Christian. In the midst of the confusion around us, we should not merely live or get by. We must live in total victory and success. We must keep our heads even if others are losing theirs.
The Christian is unique. Unlike the non-Christians, we contend with forces. It is the enemy’s intent to use these forces to set us back. What affects our days can affect our lives. A times if something goes bad during the day, the rest of the day may be affected. What do we then do to manage each day to a success? How do we stop our days from being obstructed or out-rightly ruined by the enemy and by the forces he uses to contend with us? How do we live the Christian life each day so that we can have the victories we need in an opposing world?
The Believer’s Kit contains spiritual tools the believer uses on daily bases to have victory and to enjoy success each day. We are familiar with this kit, but sometimes we take it for granted. The tools in the kit is needed for us to win in a troubled world. The Christian life and walk with God is one day at a time. Each day has to be lived in such a way that at the end of the day, the Lord will rejoice over us because we won for that day. With these spiritual tools, we can have the daily victories we desire. We will grow spiritually and we will have great success. We will enjoy each day in the presence of God, even in the face of challenges.
These five basic but simple keys in the kit will help you coast through each day, taking it one day at a time and having your focus always on the Lord. Let’s check the kit and see what we have. We will discuss each key briefly, starting with the first which is prayer.
#1 PRAYER
Nothing can replace prayer. The direction of our days and lives can be decided through prayers. While we are still on earth, prayer is indispensable. There would be little or no headway in our spiritual lives if we neglect prayer. Once you lose your alter of prayer, you start losing out in life and you begin to roll back in your walk with God. Some believe that we should pray basically twice a day. But it’s better to pray more than twice in a day. We can pray as many times as possible in a day. You can never pray too much. If at all there’s anything like ‘too much prayer’ the Scripture encourages it. It says we should pray without ceasing. If you have your two supposed major prayer times- morning and night, nothing stops you from bowing your head for a minute and talking to God intermittently while in your regular daily routine or job. I’ve found this to be very helpful.
God answers one minute prayer the same way He answers one hour prayer. Don’t wait till you have all the time. This is a problem common to many Christians. If they don’t have ‘enough time’ to pray, they won’t pray. Though it’s good to tarry in prayers for hours before the Lord. I encourage it, but prayer is not necessarily about how lengthy the time you pray is. It has more to do with the heart than with duration. We can’t use the excuse of no time and neglect prayer. Don’t wait for ‘enough time’ or a ‘convenient time’ before you can pray. Every time and everywhere is convenient. You can pray for a minute in a restaurant and you can also pray for two hours in your room or Church. Pray everywhere and at all times. All prayers said in faith works, despite place or duration.
Maintaining a strong daily prayer life makes you enjoy your life. It gives daily victories. It spurs your spiritual growth and walk with God. It paves the way for a life of success. Many successful people on earth connect their successes to prayer. To assume that a Christian would survive without prayers is the same as assuming that a fish would survive on dry land.
Jesus prayed. You can never be too busy for prayers. Jesus lived a life of prayer, despite His busy schedule. He prayed because He needed to. He prayed because He had to. He had a disciplined and a regular prayer life. He began His ministry with prayer. He continued with prayer and ended with prayer. So pray and enjoy the victories it brings each day. Don’t let a day pass without praying as many times as you can. It doesn’t matter if it’s for one minute or for one hour. This is important because your daily victory depends on it. Let the following Scriptures encourage you in daily prayers.
Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Continue in prayer. Colossians 4:2
I will therefore that men pray everywhere. 1 Timothy 2:8
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16
And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed. Luke 5:16
