BELIEVER’S KIT: #3- MEDITATION
The world is a very noisy place. If we are not careful, such chaos may get to us and our minds may become noisier than the noisy world. Many people believe if you’ve won the battle of the mind, you’ve won the war itself. For Christians, we must win this chaos and confusion. The best way to do that is through meditation, and particularly meditating on the Word of God.
The Word of God should be written on the tablets of our hearts. In our hearts that we meditate on God’s Word, His promises, His blessings and His faithfulness. There must be something on the inside of a believer that is strong enough to defeat the distractions and confusion in the world. And that is the presence of God. God is His Word. You must be so filled with Him that the enemy can’t come close to planting the wrong seeds in your heart. Sin is first committed in the heart. It breeds first in the heart through wrong imagination before manifestation. So does righteousness. Let your heart be filled with God’s Word, and let the righteousness of it overflow from within you to the outside. Here’s what Jesus said about the functioning of the heart.
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. Matthew 15:11
Keep your heart and mind clean but never empty. It’s risky to keep an empty heart. Because the heart can never really be empty, it is either occupied by the good or by the evil. It’s either God has it or the enemy does. If you don’t let God occupy your heart, then the enemy will. When the devil sees an empty heart, he takes possession of it and most times very subtly through the wrong thoughts.
Be filled with the Word of God and His Holy Spirit. The Word of God you read in the beginning of the day can be the bases of your meditation. Don’t let any evil thought or imagination have rule in your heart. Though evil and corruption are paraded before our very eyes everyday, we must never let them settle on the inside of us. Living in a world of sin may not be the easiest thing. That doesn’t mean we can’t live above it through God.
Sometimes the enemy may want to afflict us through worrisome thoughts and anxieties. Instead of believing and meditating on the power of our God, we begin to accommodate fears and even imaginary problems that may never happen. Meditating on God, His strength and what He has done in the past drives away every fear, worry or panic.
We have what it takes to gain victory over the wrong thoughts and that is the Word of God. Meditate on the Word of God and on His promises through the power of the Holy Spirit in you. In the course of meditation, God expounds His Word more to you and opens your spiritual mind.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9
The heart of a man is desperately wicked because it keeps thinking evil. But if that same heart dwells on the good, such a heart and life can become wonderfully beautiful. Think on God’s Word and think positively. Has He made some promises unto you? Are you a witness of His blessings? Has He been faithful? Did He say something to you this morning? Daily meditate on these and have your victory each day you step into. Be filled with God’s Word and be completely occupied by Him.
We have the tendency to dwell on the hurts and the pains we’ve been through. We go through the details of the actions of those that wronged us and we carry the grudge heavily in our hearts. Life will be beautiful if we devote such time to God’s Word through meditation. In your daily routine, amidst the noise and distractions, think on His Word and goodness. Walk with God through His Word. If you are determined to do so, He will help you achieve it. Make God’s Word your full time job through meditation. Then enjoy the blessings that come from it.
Your heart is important. That is where God, His Word and the Holy Spirit reside. See these Scriptures and handle your heart carefully.
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23
I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. Psalm 119:15
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:11
