BELIEVER’S KIT: #4- WATCH- Remain at alert as a Christian soldier. Be watchful because ...
A watchman watches over the city. He watches against any impending danger. He watches out for trouble and informs the people when the enemy or enemies are on sight. He is at alert. He doesn’t slumber. A careless slumber can endanger the whole city. If the watchman neglects his job, the whole city will be exposed and can be destroyed within minutes of such negligence. This is the same case with the Christian. The little difference is that the Christian is the watchman and also the city.
Remain at alert as a Christian soldier. Be watchful because the enemy is always launching attacks at you. He uses everything and everyone at his disposal to come at us. He can attack through things that seem okay, through our ignorant beloved ones and most seriously through the world that we are up and against. But if we are watchful we will recognize him, whichever means he uses to come against us.
When the enemy decides to attack you first thing in the morning through a relative, a friend or a colleague in the office, or through an unexpected and unavoidable incident, understand who is actually behind it. When almost everything and everyone seem to get on your nerve through the day, don’t get worked up. Don’t allow yourself to be demoralized. Know who the actual enemy is. When someone starts an ungodly conversation in your presence, recognize that it’s the devil wanting to pollute your mind. Don’t please them by joining. If you do, you’ve handed the enemy the victory you could have had. It’s safer to work out than to drag your spirit in that mud.
If you’re constantly watching, you’ll be able to recognize the devil whenever and however he raises his ugly head. Recognize the activities of your enemy so you can win over him. And you can recognize him only when you’re watchful. Know this. A watchful Christian is not noisy. It is difficult to be noisy without offending or even grieving the Holy Spirit. A watchful Christian doesn’t jump up at everything that goes by. He mustn’t win every argument and every quarrel. The true victory is when you keep calm and understand who is behind it all.
Watch out because the enemy is out there seeking to steal your day. Watch out for when he’ll bring issues, challenges and people with the wrong attitude. Be smart to know when the devil is knocking and be smarter not to answer the door.
But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Matthew 24:43
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. Matthew 26:41
