God’s Promises
From the beginning, God is known for His promises. At creation, He pronounced promises and blessings upon the first man and woman. He is the God of promise. His promises show that He loves and cares for us and is looking out for our good.
It’s one thing to make a promise. It’s another thing to keep it. Who makes the promise makes a lot of difference. Sometimes as human beings we make promises, but never get to keep them. It may be because of circumstances beyond us or because we are not faithful to our word. This is not the case with God. He keeps His promises. Here’s what the Scripture says about God and His promises.
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Numbers 23:19
We should always remember that God is not a man. Unlike frail man, He is a faithful God. Man is depraved in nature and this depravity can cause him not to be faithful and true to his word. The everlasting God and Father has always been faithful and would forever be. His righteous and faithful nature never changes. When He makes promises, He keeps them.
Even when we want to, circumstances beyond our control as humans can hinder us from fulfilling the promises we make to others, despite our good intentions. But this is not the case with God. There can never be any circumstance beyond or above God. There is nothing that can stop Him from fulfilling His promises. He created the whole universe and has it all in His palm. He is the only powerful being. No one is powerful other than God. All the power belongs to Him and He dictates how things work on earth, in Heaven and in the whole universe.
The question is, has God made promises to you? Oh yes, He has. Just as He created Adam and Eve with great promises and blessings, so He brought you forth into this world with His promises waiting for you. There are many blessings and promises of God lined up for you. These promises are found in His Word. Open the Scripture and see these divine promises. Access these great promises of yours in His Word. They are boundless, just as His blessings are. Check His Scripture! The promises therein are all yours.
There’s the story of a man whose child was travelling out for studies. Amid the things needed for his journey and studies, the man gave his son a Bible to always read. He gave him a particular verse in the Scripture to read when he found himself in financial need. The son left for his journey. After awhile, he called home telling his father he’s short on finance and needed money. The father asked him if he had read the Scripture he instructed him to read when he needed financial help. The son answered positively, but the father insisted that he has not. They went back and forth for many days with the son insisting he had read the Scripture verse when he actually hadn’t. Finally, wondering what good the Scripture would do him in his financial state, the son decided to obey the father. He searched out his Bible where it was neglected and opened to the verse his father instructed him to read. To his amazement, in between the pages was a cheque with a huge sum of money written on his name by his father.
How would we claim our promises if we don’t go to God’s Word? There are many promises of God waiting for us in the Scripture. We may not get to have them unless we go to His Word. We may not enjoy these blessings unless we make God’s Word our compass and friend. If only we would open His Word and claim the promises and blessings freely given to us by a loving Father. Read your Bible. Believe God’s promises in them. Claim them. They are for you. Hold unto those promises by faith. He that promised is faithful and able. He watches His Word to perform it.
Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it. Jeremiah 1:12
For every promise God makes, He will fulfill. Look back and count how many He has already fulfilled. The rest He will also fulfill. He has a time plan and schedule for all His promises and blessings. His time is often different from ours. He works according to His time, not according to our time. He is never late. Hang on there in faith. Keep believing. Keep having faith. He is coming through for you. He is faithful and true. Know that nothing is difficult for Him. No promise is big for God not to fulfill. No problem or circumstance can stand on His way. He is God by Himself. He has promised and He will make it good.
