Never Forsaken
One of the promises we love so much is the promise that God will never leave or forsake us. Having the assurance of the creator of Heaven and earth is so much to fall back on and sail confidently in a world like ours. Who wouldn't love such promise? Aside other places in the Scriptures, we see this promise of God prominently in the Gospel of Matthew. We also see it emphasised in the book of Hebrews.
Matthew 28:20
Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.
Hebrews 13:5
He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Living life and having this promise makes life worth living. It gives you all the confidence. It gives you the sense of safety in a world of darkness. It is the assurance of victory for today's battles and tomorrow's challenges. Knowing that the one that controls all things is with you is the best and the greatest thing anyone can wish for.
God will not leave us. He will not forsake us. We can count on His presence and care for all our life on earth. Ironically, we look at this promise from the divine stance only. But it's like a two-way traffic. If one doesn't want to leave or forsake me, it goes to say the person wouldn't also want me to leave or forsake Him. If God would not forsake us, He would not want us to forsake Him either. If it is good that He doesn't leave us, it's also good that we don't leave Him. As much as the Lord doesn't want to leave or forsake us, He also doesn't want us to leave or forsake Him.
God doesn't want to tag along with us like an unwanted company. He wants to be accepted and cherished. Not just a company, He wants more than that. He is our God, but He also wants to be our best friend through His Son Jesus Christ. He wants to be the one closest to us. He wants to be one with us. He wants to be our all in all. Nobody likes a one-sided relationship, including God.
We need God for everything and in everything. Humanity is totally dependent on Him. When He says He'll never leave or forsake us, we are the benefactors of such promise. Though God is God by Himself, He still wants our companionship. He still cares for our friendship. He still desires to fellowship with us. He still wants a deep relationship with us, all because He loves us.
As you live in the assurance that God will never leave or forsake you, know that He requires same of you. He doesn't want you to leave or forsake Him either. Don't leave the Lord. Don't forsake Him. Choosing you above all and you not choosing Him above all makes Him look like an undesired friend. Don't forsake God. Stay with Him through prayer. Stay with Him through the study of His Word to know Him more. Stay with Him in obedience to Him and His Word. Stay with Him in faith and walk in His Holy Spirit everyday. Stay in relationship with Him. God will not leave or forsake you. Don't leave or forsake God.
